I'm not in today. Sorry! Please complete the following work, spending an hour and a half. These two tasks should be completed as two blog posts, and will be checked in your next lesson. Feel free to work in a pair if you feel like splitting the research up.
Both tasks will lead in to activities in the next lesson, so make sure you complete them!
Task one - marketing (45 minutes)
1 - Start a new blog post called 'The Film Industry - Marketing Films'
2 - Select a big budget American film that has been released in 2017. Excellent examples include Blade Runner 2049, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 and Wonder Woman.
3 - Find examples of the following forms of marketing for this film, and place images, links and screen captures of these in your blog:
- Traditional advertising, for example billboards
- Teaser trailer
- Theatrical trailer
- Social marketing/social media
- Fan marketing (eg memes, fan accounts, and fan fiction)
- Viral marketing (google this if you don't know what it is yet!)
- Merchandise (eg toys, clothing and soundtrack album)
- Official website (make sure you explore it properly!)
4 - Identify three potential audiences for this film. Remember to consider the film's genre. Write a short paragraph on how the marketing campaign targets and maintains it's audiences.
Task two - regulation (45 minutes)
1 - Start a new blog post called 'The Film Industry - regulating films'
2 - Find a definition for 'regulation' and place it at the top of the post.
3 - Films in the UK are regulated by the British Board of Film Classification. Write a short description of the BBFC, using Wikipedia as your source
4 - Go to the BBFC website (bbfc.co.uk), and click around to get a feel for the site and the organisation.
5 - Write a description of the following UK age certificates. What exactly does a film have to include to 'justify' each age certificate? Include examples of films, and include the logo for each on your blog.
- Uc
- U
- PG
- 12/12A
- 15
- 18
- R-18
- E
6 - Write a short paragraph responding to this statement: "regulation of film in the UK has largely become pointless due to the rise of digital technologies like the internet". To what extent do you agree?
