Component one section A - explore how media language combines to create meaning

Before you move on to today's task, please make sure you have completed and published all the previous lessons on your blog.

In today's session, you will be responding in one of two ways to a potential exam question.

We've now firmly moved on to the revision section of the course. If you are wondering why we are revising for an exam that many of you will not take, please read this post, which should hopefully answer your questions.

Advertising revision

Explore how media language combines to make meaning in the following media products: the Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) teaser poster and the Tide print advertisement (1950s).

Make reference to

  • How genre conventions change over time
  • How audiences may respond to these products
  • The sociohistorical context of these products

For today's session you have two choices:

Task: answer the above question under exam conditions

  • You may not access the Tide advert
  • You may not access the textual analysis toolkit
  • You must complete the question in no more than 45 minutes, instantly publishing your response to your blog after you have finished

or

Task: write your response in note form, making full use of all the resources on the blog

You may wish to use the textual analysis toolkit and the media language section of the theories and theorists resource as a framework for your notes.
