Radio - component one section b - explore how Late Night Woman's Hour appeals to both core and secondary audiences

Explore how Late Night Woman's Hour appeals to both core and secondary audiences

A question like this in the exam would almost certainly be worth 8 or 12 or 15 marks. For component one b, this means 8 or 12 or 15 minutes. 12 minutes is half the length of an episode of Friends, before the advert break comes on.

So your first reaction might be 'arrgh'. But remember, you're only expected to do so much in 12 minutes. Component two has much (much) less focus on textual analysis and much more focus on COLD HARD FACTS. That's not to say you cannot briefly make reference to media language (eg. "the compelling mise-en-scene of the BBC Sounds homepage creates a clear and inviting user experience (UX) for the variety of audiences that use the public broadcasting service")

Research - spend 20 minutes on each heading

  • Who is Lauren Laverne??
  • Socio Historical context of the show
  • The role of the BBC and it's status as an institution
